About Retro

Retro Maintenance is a nearly 100 year old, family owned and operated business who has served New York City for 3 generations. The company offers a variety of cleaning and building maintenance services to its valued commercial, retail, and residential customers. These services include Window Cleaning, Electrostatic Disinfecting, Power Washing, Construction Cleanup, Commercial Cleaning, and Floor Maintenance. Retro Maintenance is a company committed to providing the same “Timeless Service” that the company has given so many customers for nearly 100 years.

The Relationship

The relationship began with the third generation owners of Retro over 13 years ago through consulting services for their company. At the time, the company was expanding its services while making decisions that would soon lead to the change of its second generation name, Stadco, to its current third generation name, Retro Maintenance.

During this transition, Vertical Aitch was able to provide support while offering insight, perspective, and creativity throughout the business consulting and brand development process. Ultimately, the connection between ourselves and the owners has continued to grow and develop into a unique personal and business relationship that remains strong to this day.

The Concept

Vertical Aitch began working on the brand development around the time the owners were discussing the finalization of the name change. Throughout the process, the owners would often reflect on the nearly 90 years (at the time) of business that had all began with their grandfather back in 1923. Through a desire to honor the heritage that would ultimately surpass 100 years of business over the next decade, Retro Maintenance chose to collaborate with Vertical Aitch in order to develop a brand that would celebrate the company’s heritage.

While working on the development of the brand, the desire to integrate the old and the new with an emphasis on the company’s dedication to providing incredible service, both now and over the last 90 years, became the centerpiece of the concept.

This idea of Retro Maintenance offering incredible service, that has not been restricted to any particular point in time, became the basis for the company’s new concept—Timeless Service. All of these ideas were integrated into a brand that embraced elements of the old with a renewed excitement for the new.

To date, Vertical Aitch has developed Retro’s brand, collateral, print material, apparel, photography, and website.
